Following his outstanding performance against the Giants last week, Christopher Sanchez appeared to be a breakthrough star. However, the Philadelphia Phillies’ 5-1 loss to the New York Mets at Citi Field changed the course of events. Sanchez abandoned the game after just two innings due to pain in his left forearm.
Unlike his last appearance, he labored with command and threw 58 pitches. At 95.9 mph on average, his sinker velocity decreased to 94.7 mph, and his typically sharp changeup failed to work.
Despite having a strong streak against Juan Soto, Sanchez didn’t appear to be the same pitcher.
The Phillies and fans were immediately concerned. The staff hasn’t ruled out more testing, such as an MRI, because forearm pain can occasionally indicate a more serious problem. After the game, though, Sanchez seemed composed.
“I feel normal right now,” he told NBC Sports Philadelphia reporters. “The doctor checked me out, and I’m sure we won’t have to worry about this.”
His health is still unknown, though, which is problematic for a Phillies rotation that is already having problems. Ranger Suarez is yet to make his season debut, while Aaron Nola has been erratic. If Sanchez is late, the club may have to hurry Suarez back or Taijuan Walker may be able to stay in the mix.
Joe Ross pitched three strong innings out of the bullpen to help minimize the damage, but the Phillies were unable to rally at the bat.
Now, they’ll turn to Zach Wheeler in hopes of avoiding a sweep by the Mets.
Sanchez’s health will be keenly monitored as the squad attempts to maintain its competitiveness early in the season. The Phillies’ future plans may be significantly impacted if he is out for any length of time.

All eyes are now on what happens next. The Phillies are now 4 games behind the Metropolitans in the NL East with a 13-11 record following yet another defeat.
