Around this time last year, Cameron Sheffield made a commitment to Jon Scheyer, the head coach of Duke basketball, and his associates. After three seasons as a mainstay at Rice, where he was a full-time starter for the Owls in 2022–2023 before missing the 2023–2024 season due to injury, he came as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility left.
Sheffield undoubtedly gained favor with the Duke coaching and his teammates by selflessly playing a broad range of positions on the practice court, despite playing only a few minutes and sitting toward the end of the Blue Devil bench the previous season.
He will now be a member of Durham’s next team.
The 6-foot-6, 204-pound guard/forward from Alpharetta, Georgia, responded to a fan in the Instagram comments section of a post this week, stating that he absolutely intends to return to Durham for his last season of eligibility.
Sheffield played 30 minutes on the court in 13 games for the 2024–25 Blue Devils, scoring five points, grabbing five rebounds, and dishing out two assists.

Cameron Sheffield is one of nine players that seem committed to playing for Duke basketball in 2025–2026. The remaining eight are Nikolas Khamenia, Cameron Boozer, Cayden Boozer, Darren Harris, Maliq Brown, Patrick Ngongba II, Isaiah Evans, and Caleb Foster.
