New York Mets owner Steve Cohen became brutally honest about Juan Soto’s early-season difficulties. While the franchise’s big acquisition this past offseason is off to a sluggish start, his new team surely isn’t. With a 20-9 record, the Mets lead all NL East teams by more than four games and have the best MLB record. Without a doubt, New York is beginning to resemble the World Series contender that was anticipated going into this season.
Steve Cohen is aware that Soto must improve upon his current situation, though. Three home runs and a 248 average. In a recent interview with the New York Post, the Mets owner broke down the sluggers’ issues so far.
“If you ask him he’d probably say it’s not going as what he hoped. That’s not what his back of his baseball card would say. But said that, there’s a lot of subtle things he does that genuinely think significant. It really important how he works the count to force pitchers to throw additional pitches. After that, Pete may drive him into base. Pete is therefore observing better pitches. The way something works is really delicate, so you can’t just think about it in a very limited way. Having said that, Juan is solely focused on baseball, so I’m not concerned about him. Let’s talk about this at the conclusion of the year because he is a pure hitter.
Mets fans have seen star acquisitions struggle and gain their rhythm before
Fans of the Mets don’t have to go far to understand that they should exercise patience with their most recent additions. During his time in New York, Francisco Lindor was viewed as a flop signing; now, he is a contender for MVP. Juan Soto should be given the benefit of the doubt given his past performance. Everywhere he has played, the four-time All-Star has been a success. Soto most recently played for the New York Yankees, where he won his fifth Silver Slugger award and was selected to the First-team All-MLB.
Overall, there’s no need to panic, and the fact that the Mets already look this good is quite promising. This is a club that should grow into the season, just as it did last year. New York is no longer the underdog, though. The team hopes to make a comeback to the NLCS and is among the top contenders in the National League. Gaining a significant lead in the division is a fantastic beginning, but getting back to that point will take time.
