The Los Angeles Angels have not been the receivers of much good news lately. The Halos have dropped to 12-15 in last place in the American League West division after losing their previous three games and only managing five runs.

As if that weren’t awful enough, Nolan Schanuel, one of their main players, has been injured after fouling a ball off his right knee. The third-year big leaguer gave a more upbeat report on his health on Sunday, allaying many fears that he might be placed on the disabled list.

Per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register, Schanuel provided some optimism regarding his injury. “Feeling a lot better, definitely,” the first baseman said. “When it first happened, I was kind of shocked and took some time. Then today, I woke up, feeling a lot better. Walking on it is a lot better as well.”

“I tried to walk on it, and it just gave out on me,” he continued. I was kind of expecting the worst and hoping for the best right after it happened. After time passed and I started walking on it, I wasn’t thinking it shouldn’t be that painful.”

Schanuel has started the 2025 season well. The first baseman has a.709 OPS after slashing.247/.327/.382 in 26 games. Last season, the former first-round pick played in 147 games with the Halos and recorded an OPS of.705. He’ll be hoping to go back on the pitch without needing to be placed on injured leave.
