Alfie Harrison, a promising midfielder for Manchester City, has joined Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United with beneficial terms attached.
Alfie Harrison, a Manchester City youngster, has signed for Newcastle United on deadline day.

The 18-year-old midfielder completed his physical last week, and the transaction has now been announced by City. MEN Sport understands Eddie Howe’s side paid a small upfront sum for Harrison.

However, the Blues could receive £3.5 million in add-ons from the agreement. If the North East club decides to trade Harrison in the future, Pep Guardiola’s team will benefit greatly from the transaction.

City have included a 40% sell-on clause in the agreement, which means they will likely get a large sum of money if the midfielder reaches his full potential. Harrison was creating a name for himself this season with City’s U18s.

Harrison scored eight goals and assisted four times in just eight U18 Premier League outings. Such performance earned him a spot on the bench for last year’s UEFA Youth League matches against Young Boys and RB Leipzig.

Ben Wilkinson, the academy’s manager, predicted Harrison’s success in 2022. Regarding the midfielder, he said: “He has had to be patient and wait for his time this season, and I believe he was rewarded for the things we have been discussing as a group, in terms of places in the box when we cross the ball.

“It’s not asking him to score miraculous goals from 30 yards; it’s simply being in the correct place when the balls come in, which he accomplished with one-touch finishes in the box, and I’m incredibly proud of him. He took advantage of the opportunity and shown many of the skills that we know he possesses; we are fortunate to have so many talented players in those positions.

“We know what he is capable of, he is a midfield player that will score goals for sure and I am delighted for him, it is more minutes for him and I am pleased overall.”
